Sheet Molding Compound
Sheet Molding Compound (SMC) is a combination of resins, fiberglass, catalysts and fillers compounded into a sheet form. The sheet is then used to manufacture compression-molded products and, on a limited basis, sold to other molders. SMC is specific to closed molding processes.

Core Molding incorporates a sophisticated computer program that assists in the compounding of various SMC formulations tailored to customer needs. Core updated the mixing system and software in 2003, offering customers greater manufacturing flexibility and improved quality.

Core produces systems for class “A” automotive applications; Class “A” marine applications; and high strength structural applications that may be used as a finished part or as reinforcement (sub-assembly) elsewhere.

Core Molding has the capacity to manufacture approximately 60 million pounds of SMC sheet material annually utilizing both polyester and vinyl ester resins. Customers may be confident in incoming quality, as Core's own compression-molding processes utilize the same SMC sold to other molders.
